-- Spiral Freezer Buying Checklist --

In today's prepared food processing industry, most food processing plants involved with cooking, cooling, and freezing use linear or spiral belt conveyor systems.

When dealing with spiral freezers, how do you determine the best selection of freezer design and manufacturer for both performance and price?

To compare needs, ask:

As basic information, we need you to supply as best you can from the following list.
Should you not readily have all this information, please supply as available, and we will help you fill in the blanks:

  1. The production capacity (LBS/HR) of your production line.
  2. The duration of your production shifts.
  3. The product enters the temperature of the spiral freezer.
  4. The product exit temperature of the spiral freezer.
  5. The product surface and moisture content.
  6. The product's physical size and weight.
  7. The product's package type and size of the container, if frozen in packages.

To compare performance, ask:

  1. The air velocity across both sides of the product.
  2. The air temperature is scrubbing the product surface.

To compare prices, determine:

  1. The belt width of the spiral belt.
  2. The turn radius of the spiral belt.
  3. The active belt length.
  4. The number of tiers in the freezer.
  5. The tier spacing.
  6. The inlet and outlet orientation arrangement.
  7. The building material of the spiral freezer conveyor.
  8. The building material and gauge of the freezer enclosure.
  9. Add-on options like belt washer and dryer, CIP, and field electrical wiring.
  10. Field installation charges. Check carefully the price of the spiral freezer versus the production capacity rate.

NOTE: Some companies quote a smaller belt width or even a smaller freezer size to attract customer orders, but later, they cannot deliver the desired capacity.

Remember: always compare freezer airflow velocity, air temperature, belt width, belt length, turn radius, spiral freezer building material, options, enclosure construction, and the manufacturer's reputation for quality and service.

Typical Specifications of Advanced Equipment Spiral Freezers:

  1. Advanced Equipment standard air velocity across both sides of the product surface is 1000 Feet Per Minute, dependent on the product weight and thickness.
  2. Advanced Equipment has determined that the lowest product dehydration and most economical operating standard evaporator temperature is – 40 degree F, other temperatures will lower or increase in refrigeration horsepower consumption.
  3. The airflow direction is best suited for horizontal airflow on our smaller-capacity packaged spiral freezer and vertical down airflow on our larger-capacity site-built spiral freezer.
  4. The air temperature should be designed with an evaporator surface adequate to handle a 10—to 25-degree F. temperature difference (Air inlet temperature minus evaporator temperature) when both airflow speed and temperature have been checked.

Philosophy
IQF Spiral Freezers Designed for Small & Medium Capacity

The IQF Spiral Freezer is a continuous in-line-belt freezer designed to minimize product weight loss and ensure gentle quality handling during freezing. Products are evenly fed directly onto the loading freezer belt from the production line. It quickly transports the product into the low temperature-freezing zone. The belt spirals up or down along the rotating drum until it reaches the top or bottom, where the frozen product is gently discharged from the freezer discharge port. Due to the large belt surface available, products can be frozen in single layers or individually for IQF. (Individually Quick Frozen) quality. Because products can maintain their original load-in position throughout the freezing process, sorting the simultaneously frozen mixed products is simplified.

BENEFITS

  • Packaged and fully tested at our factory before shipping.
  • Fully Seamless Welded Insulated Enclosure.
  • Exterior Direct Drive System.
  • Ready to be placed and connected to refrigeration, electrical, and water service. Built to USDA, FDA, UL, CFIA, OSHA, and CSA

Specifications & Standards

  • Self-cleaning with internal center drum washer manifold as a standard feature.
  • Continuous inline food freezing.
  • Gentle, smooth handling of products.
  • Compact packaged design in lower operating cost and saving process floor space.
  • High-efficiency impingement horizontal airflow, allowing fast freezing.
  • For each tier, the minimum product weight loss is due to exposure to the coldest air temperature at all times directly from the evaporator.
  • Stainless-steel construction.
  • Easy access to sanitation and maintenance.
  • Customizable design to fit requirements.

LOW OPERATION COST

  1. IQF Spiral Freezers have low operation costs compared to C02, nitrogen, and other freezers.
  2. This is achieved using the most efficient mechanical refrigeration method combined with our new unique low-pressure, high-velocity, impingement horizontal airflow recirculation system.
  3. The horizontal airflow ensures the coldest air continuously removes heat from all product surfaces.
  4. Each product tier directly receives the recirculated coldest air of the refrigerated -40C evaporator.

ECONOMICAL

It is one of the most economical freezers offered in its class. Every component of the freezer is manufactured in our well-equipped engineering and manufacturing facility, so we can afford to pass on the savings to our customers without sacrificing quality.

CUSTOM DESIGN

ADVANCED EQUIPMENT INC. begins with a standard design that is carefully customized to meet most standard needs. However, we can also custom design our equipment to individual customer's requirements.
